to dream

Was Socrates right when he suggested that death is not something to be feared because, for all we know, it could be something really good?

Something I thought about this is....in this life, we fear big changes and we worry about a lot of things that never happen. Generally the worst thing is the effect of our own worry and fear. Whatever we go through, life goes on and we find things that we can rely on, and we're able to live our lives.

Why do we think that the afterlife is going to represent some huge shift and none of the principles that applied in this life will apply then? I think this question is especially relevant to those of us who see ourselves as having a relationship with God. Surely, if that's true, the afterlife will, in many ways, be a continuation of this life, because we already have a relationship with God in this life. Why do we think everything is going to be strange?

I always think death and what comes after it is going to be some dramatic and terrifying disaster, but surely that's just fear talking.
