One of the problems with extreme polarization is that there is none of the creative tension that is necessary for progress. Both sides - left and right - have strengths and weaknesses, and a good system would be one that can draw on the strengths of each and mitigate the weaknesses of each, but no - we have to want to demonize and destroy the other side.
