I like how Harold Bloom uses the word 'daemon'. I don't know how I would pronounce it out loud, but in my head it's neither dee-mon nor day-mon - it's in between. Mentally we can make distinctions like that. We can do the same thing with meaning. When we verbally articulate things, we have to categorize, but in the mind a concept or a phenomenon can be between two categories - in a sense both and in a sense neither.
